What a W-2 is used for
A W-2 is the year-end wage and tax statement an employer provides to an employee. It reports annual wages and withholding used to prepare federal, state, and local income tax returns.
A W-2 may also support annual income verification, but the lender, landlord, agency, or other recipient decides which documents it accepts. A record copy created here does not verify employment and does not replace the employer-issued form.
